When doing research on Edgar Allan Poe, reading on how he grew up and his life, made sense on why most of his stories he has written are dark and twisted stories. Well at least the three short stories we have read in class were dark and twisted. Poe had a few family deaths in his life time of family members he was close with. With death being kind of a big part of his life explains some of the parts and themes of his writings. For example in The Tell-Tale Heart the story was based on the narrator plotting on killing an old man that lived his apartment building. Throughout the story there were a lot of weird and dark things going on and through the narrators head that'll make the reader stop and think who would think of and write a story like this. Also, another example of Poe writing about some type of dark twisted things was in his story The Black Cat. The narrator of this story violently mistreated his pets and even his wife. Eventually the narrator dies which once again goes back to Poe having some type of death one of his stories. I'm not saying that Poe is the only writer who has deaths in his story, there are plenty of writes who do. Poe is just a writer who writes about deaths constantly along with other dark, weird things which leads us to believe he grew up with a dark mind. I also noticed in The Black Cat that the narrator gets married at a young age, which I connected to Poe getting married to his young thirteen year old cousin, in which I learned while doing research on Poe.

I woke up in jail one morning and was confused with no idea on why or how I got there. As I pace back and forth in my cell trying to think why I was in jail, I search my pockets and find five items. In my pockets I find; my wallet, car keys, cell phone, a star burst, and my gym membership card. As I examine each item in my pocket, slowly my memory on what happened the night before came back to me. My wallet, car keys, and cell phone are everyday things that I keep in my pocket everywhere I go. The star burst candy and gym card is what brought back my memory on what happened that night. The candy was in my pocket because I can remember eating a pack of star burst on my way to the gym to play basketball. That also explains why I had my gym card with me so that I can get into the gym to play. It was just a normal night of playing basketball, like me and my friends always do. It was going real well and we were just about done playing for the night. I can remember there was one guy I didn't know who was playing, and he was causing a lot of trouble while we were playing. He was making hard fouls, talking trash, and just playing dirty. I had the ball up top, made a move and drove down the middle where I met up with the guy who was causing problems. I attempted to make a lay up over him and when I was airborne he purposely pushed me out the air. I hit the ground hard, landing right on back and hopped up quick angry at the dirty play just made. Me and the other guy got into a slight pushing scuffle but was quickly broken up by others. That little scuffle ended the game and everyone started packing up getting ready to leave. I got all my stuff on and headed out the door. Once I got to the parking lot I seen the guy I got into a confrontation with, and he approached me. We began fighting and slowly I blacked out. When I blacked out I couldn't tell you what happened after that because I can't remember. Next thing I know I woke up in here, in jail.
